and i really mean it this time
Oct. 17th, 2006 06:32 amI received an Amazon gift certificate recently and promptly lost my head and ordered way more than I ought. All very necessary items though ;) So here's what I ordered...
The Illustrated Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte & Dame Darcy - one of my favorite novels and i love Dame Darcy's style of artwork so I felt compelled to upgrade the cheap paperback that I currently own.
the photo book for Marie Antoinette, plus the soundtrack - I know I should wait till I at least see the movie, but I couldn't resist. I mean it's pictures of pretty costumes and '80's New Wave, so it's not like I wouldn't end up buying it in the long run after all.
Mrs Parker and the Vicious Circle - biopic of my favorite poet, finally released on dvd.
Passion by Jude Morgan - fictional biography of the women involved with the Romantic poets. Mmm, literary history as high soap opera. Can't wait.
...and Microsoft XP. >_< Amazon has it for 50% off, so it's as good a time as ever to upgrade. I'm finally getting to the point where my computer can't do all that I'd like it to (like uploading pics from my Canon a610 directly), so yeah, it's a necessary evil. I've never known this computer to undergo an upgrade without some sort of snafu though, so I'm naturally wary about the process.
And then I dropped by Borders yesterday to buy the new (last) Lemony Snicket book because I couldn't wait for the time it would take to mail. While I was there, I bought The Ladies of Grace Adieu and Other Stories by Susanna Clarke. She wrote Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell and it looks like this has a few stories set in the same world as well (not to mention the familiarly lengthy footnotes). Plus, there are lovely pen & ink drawings by Charles Vess. And I had a coupon, so I couldn't not buy it. I can curb my doll spending, but when it comes to books, I'm totally screwed; I can't not buy books.
I'm seriously tempted to buy this tea that someone posted about on
teafortwo. It's a lapsang souchong blended with honey and clove. That sounds like the perfect drink for a cold autumn morning. Mmmm. If it weren't 2am and I wasn't afraid of never sleeping again, I would go brew some tea right now. It'll just have to wait till later but no more shopping for me.
