Hardback, trade paperback or mass market paperback?
Hardback, since I like to gloat over my book collection.Although paperbacks are preferable for throwing in the purse.

Barnes & Noble or Borders?
B&N's usually have a nicer cafe (with cupcakes from the Cheesecake Factory), however I like that Borders book rewards program is free, so while I usually browse at both, I prefer to buy at Borders.

Bookmark or dog-ear?
Bookmark, of course!

Amazon or brick and mortar?
I like both. Amazon is good for the cheap prices and hard to find books, but nothing cheers me up more than spending time in a bookstore.

Alphabetize by author or alphabetize by title or random?
Random. I confess that 1)I'm a slob and b)I've run out of bookshelf space, so most of my books are in towering piles. For favorite authors however (Neil Gaiman, Douglas Adams, Connie Willis, Jane Austen), I'll make an exception and group your books together.

Keep, throw away, or sell?
Keep or sell. I have a difficult enough time throwing away magazines, I couldn't ever throw away a book unless something completely disastrous had already happened to it.

Keep dust jacket or toss it?
Keep.

Read with dust jacket or remove it?
Usually with, unless I'm carrying it around a lot and trying to keep it from getting worn.

Short story or novel?
Novel.

Harry Potter or Lemony Snicket?
I like both, but if I had to choose, then Harry Potter. Am eagerly looking forward to the The Potterdämmerung.

Stop reading when tired or at chapter breaks?
Chapter breaks preferably.

"It was a dark and stormy night" or "Once upon a time"?
Definitely "It was a dark and stormy night."

Buy or borrow?
Buy, most definitely. If I borrow books, I risk forgetting about it or racking up enormous library fees.

New or used?
Both, but new preferably.

Buying choice: book reviews, recommendations, or browse?
all three.

Tidy ending or cliffhanger?
Either, depending on how well it's done.

Morning reading, afternoon reading, or nighttime reading?
Yes!

Stand-alone or series?
I have trouble getting into huge fantasy series, so I'll say stand-alone.

Favorite series?
Harry Potter, Anne of Green Gables, His Dark Materials, Laura Joh Rowland's Sano Ichiro mysteries, the Sandman comics.

Least favorite series
Laurell K. Hamilton's Anita Blake vampire series. It didn't start out that awful, but my god, that's now one big ball of suck.

Favorite children's book?
Harriet the Spy and The Long Secret by Louise Fitzhugh. Alice's Adventures in Wonderland And Through the Looking Glass by Lewis Carroll.

Favorite YA book?
Beauty and The Outlaws of Sherwood by Robin McKinley.

Favorite book of which nobody else has heard?
Well, I don't know if it's not well known, but it seems to be out of print, so I'll go with It All Began with Jane Eyre or, the Secret Life of Franny Dillman by Sheila Greenwald. I read this back in middle school and it's what got me to read Jane Eyre afterwards.

Favorite books read last year?
Passion by Jude Morgan, Kamikaze Girls by Novala Takemoto, Circle of Pearls by Rosalind Laker, The Seduction of Water by Carol Goodman, and Liquor by Poppy Z. Brite.

Favorite books of all time?
Jane Eyre, Pride and Prejudice, Catcher in the Rye, The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. Also, To Say Nothing of the Dog by Connie Willis and The Oracle Glass by Judith Merkle Riley.

Least favorite book you finished last year?
I disliked Athenais: The Real Queen of France by Lisa Hilton and The Secret History of the Pink Carnation by Lisa Willig. I'm not sure why the latter one seems to be so popular; just save yourself the bother and read The Scarlet Pimpernel instead.

What are you reading right now?
Swordpoint by Ellen Kushner

What are you reading next?
To Dance with Kings by Rosalind Laker

Favorite book to recommend to an eleven-year-old?
I suppose it depends on the kid, but probably Harriet the Spy.

Favorite book to reread?
Either Pride and Prejudice or The Oracle Glass. Or Tanith Lee's Biting the Sun.

Do you ever smell books?
No. I'm probably the only book geek who doesn't like the smell of old books. That's why I prefer to buy them new.

Do you ever read Primary source documents?
No, not often.
