Happy (Belated) New Year! Thank goodness 2007 is over, it was a crummy year. It's time for new beginnings.
I only read 31 books this year! That's down twenty from last year. Not like it's a big contest or anything...except that it totally is. Wah, funnelcakes. What was I doing instead? Probably looking at cat macros. If you put your ear to the monitor, you an almost hear my brain cells fizzling away.
The King's Touch - Jude Morgan
The Boleyn Inheritance - Phillipa Gregory
The Illustrated Jane Eyre - by Charlotte Bronte & Dame Darcy (reread)
The Big Sleep - Raymond Chandler (rr)
The Constant Princess - Phillipa Gregory
Abundance - Sena Jeter Naslund
Innocent Traitor - Alison Weir
The Prestige - Christopher Priest
The Queen's Secret - Jean Plaidy
City of Darkness, City of Light - Marge Piercy (rr)
Sex Wars - Marge Piercy
Swordspoint - Ellen Kushner
Indiscretion - Jude Morgan
To Dance With Kings - Rosalind Laker
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - J.K. Rowling
Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix - J.K. Rowling (rr)
Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince - J.K. Rowling (rr)
Georgiana: Duchess of Devonshire - Amanda Foreman
The Golden Tulip - Rosalind Laker
Twilight - Stephanie Meyer
Liberty: The Life and Times of Six Revolutionary Women in France - Lucy Moore
Atonement - Ian McEwan
The Children of Henry VIII - Alison Weir
An Infamous Army - Georgette Heyer
The Reluctant Queen - Jean Plaidy
Loyal in Love - Jean Plaidy
My Enemy the Queen - Victoria Holt
New Moon - Stephanie Meyer
Sisters: The Saga of the Mitford Family - Mary S. Lovell
Eclipse - Stephanie Meyer
Queen of Fashion - Caroline Weber
Anyway, my favorites of the ones I read this year were probably Atonement, Abundance, the Mitford Sisters biography and the Rosalind Laker books. And the last Harry Potter, of course.
I'm almost, but not quite, ashamed to admit that I really liked Twilight; it's good in a bad kind of way. I like wangsty, non-gory vampire fiction. I did think the two sequels get progressively worse and less entertaining though. Did Meyer even have an editor on Eclipse? Seriously, it went on forever with nothing really going on except for Bella whinging. I think the only thing that would redeem Bella from being such a wretchedly dull character is if Edward freaking kills her and makes her a vampire already. Doubtful that that will happen though.
I feel like I should make a resolution to expand my horizons and read less historical fiction and more contemporary shit, but I think I said that last year too.
By the way, I bought a Hello Kitty calendar for the computer room. And its theme was Hello Kitty wearing fashions through the ages. *cackles* Of course, this gives me plenty of fodder for iconage.
