Today management called everyone in the call center in for a staff meeting and announced (finally) that they're phasing out the departments and shutting down the Moore office. Some departments are getting closed sooner that others; mine, which is redemptions, is getting closed around April roughly.
They didn't give a specific reason as to why we're closing, except to say it was purely "business related." This translates to "cheaper to outsource to the Phillipines and Mexico." It's actually been going on in the company for awhile.
At one point, the head manager guy was going on, "Don't do anything rash or drastic. Don't go home and be mean to your family . . ." in hopes of talking anyone down from being postal, I suppose. And one girl from Customer Service kind of rolled her eyes and said, "It's not like we didn't know." Seriously, we all saw it coming. Hell, the steady stream of coworkers going out the door would have tipped us off at the very least. At least one or two people quit every week. Maybe some people will be staying on trying to get severance pay (which they are offering, yay), but the only thing that will surprise me is if CL still has anyone left by April.
I had an unpleasant dream this morning, so when I got up, I felt like something bad was going to happen and I just had to wait for it. Actually, I don't feel too badly over it yet. The travel department has been dying so slowly over the years, that it's almost a relief to know it's over and time to move on.
I have to say though, September is turning into a ball of suck. Steve Irwin, the 9/11 anniversary, Anne Richards, and now getting laid off, etc. I can't remember the last time I've heard so much bad news in the space of a few short weeks. Man, October better have an explosion of cute puppy stories. And I mean that in the figurative sense, got that, Universe?
*ETA: Damn spellcheck, it changed Phillipines to Fallopians. If my job was outsourced there, I would be very surprised. LOLS.
