Oct. 8th, 2007 03:08 amI guess it's been awhile since I've last posted. Have been spending the majority of my time going to work, moping about work, sleeping and generally fucking things up.
My desktop computer is completely fubar. Everything I did to it seemed to actively make it worse, to the point it wouldn't boot up at all. Eventually I gave up and took it to a repair shop a few days ago, was told that a corrupt file was the culprit, only to go there today to find that it's actually the hard drive that's toast. To quote the Simpsons, there is no emoticon to describe my feelings about that. *headdesk*
In better news, I had lunch with
brennye at Cafe Bella on Saturday, which cheered me up muchly. Afterwards, we went to Cross Stitch Haven and increased our stash collections. Yay for stash. I bought some new Halloween patterns, one of ghosts and an awesome design of Sleepy Hallow.
And speaking of
brennye, she gave me some meme questions.

Bacon - Really? This requires explaining? It's a delicious meat! And it makes everything that it's in taste better.
bjd - short for Ball-Jointed Doll. One of my current hobbies and obsessions. I love how the dolls are so pretty, the sculpts are so amazing and lifelife. I like dressing them up in clothes that I would want to wear myself. They also give me an excuse to muck about with my camera.
Edward Gorey - One of my favorite artists ever since I was a little kid and I saw this curiously macabre animation for Mystery!
Gorey was also a prodigious book illustrator and I knew I could always count on finding a good read when his art was on the book cover. As a kid, I loved reading about ghosts or the supernatural. I wish they would reprint the books he did with John Bellairs.

EGL - Elegant Gothic Lolita. I like a lot of Lolita fashion, but given the opportunity, the money and if I were thin enough, I'd probably dress EGL. Lots of black and lots of lace, it's all good.

Elizabeth I - As a history geek, I'm fascinated by her life and times.
Manga - An old former obsession. I used to read a lot of manga, now not so much. It still astonishes me sometimes that stuff I had to order from online Japanese bookstores is now available and translated at the Walmart Supercenter in town. Anyway, some series that I really liked: Maison Ikkoku by Rumiko Takahashi, sort of a screwball soap opera/romantic comedy. And Urusei Yatsura by the same artist, completely absurd comic series about a boy and the alien girl who loves him. I also liked X and Card Captor Sakura by the artist group Clamp. Notice these are all really old titles? Yeah, I don't keep up much with new series any more. I do like Ai Yazawa's art though. And recently I read the first volume of the Tomie series, which was pretty creepy.
Halloween - I don't do much to celebrate it any more (other than cross stitch Halloween patterns year round), but it's still my favorite holiday. See the above entry on Edward Gorey for much the same reasons.
Alice in Wonderland - Read this as a kid and have been inspired by it ever since. Such an odd story, I can't think of any thing else that matches its inventiveness or strangeness in kid lit.
Studio Ghibli - Japanese animation studio that produced some of my favorite movies like Spirited Away, My Neighbor Totoro and Whisper of the Heart. Their movies have so much attention to detail and so much heart as well. Like that scene in Spirited Away where Chihiro is riding on the train? That something so simple could be so moving is hard to explain. Their movies are filled with moments like that.
Yikes, that was long.
