Jul. 24th, 2008 02:46 amI think there was a brief period a few weeks ago where I felt kind of bad for Stephenie Meyer because of all the people snarking on the Twilight books. Thankfully, that moment has long since passed. I'm sure if I wrote something that got that made fun of that much, I'd feel pretty awful, but then again, if I wrote something that bad, I'd totally deserve it.
Also, over at SF, there was a link to this q & a:
TM:
So...when does the costuming phase kick into gear? Because you realize that the Cullens pretty much wear white, off-white, beige, ivory, cream, ecru, light tan, and pastel versions of any non-white related colors, right?
Steph:
I...I... uh... Oh holy tap dancing Christ. Who gave this twit a publishing contract? Could they not have given her a dictionary as well? If I had her book nearby, I would throw it.
You know the sad thing is? I will still fork over money to buy Breaking Dawn for a)the lols and b) to see how cracktastically bad it is. I've seen most of the bookstores around town are doing midnight parties for that, which I will not go to, but I'll probably buy it afterwards. (Obvs, I don't buy the argument that Twilight is the next HP; I just think it happens to fill a void that it left. You know, people want to fangirl or wank a series and go to midnight releases etc.)
I do have some theories about Breaking Dawn though:
Considering the progression of the novels, BD will be the worst of the four. According to Amazon, it's longer than the other three and considering how long and meandering Eclipse was, that makes its awfulness pretty likely.
My preferred ending would be that Edward turns Bella into a vampire and she decimates Forks in a drawn out bloody rampage of carnage, which would be the only thing that could make Bella somewhat interesting, but given Meyers' emphasis on her Mormon beliefs, I think that's doubtful. Instead, I think what will happen is that Bella is so special that she will somehow end up turning Edward back into a human through sheer TWU WUV.
Regardless of the conclusion, the following wank will be EPIC. I'm really looking forward to it.

People are always trying to dress the Cullens in black leather and lace goth freakishness. I'm really hoping the movie folks are not picturing it that way in their heads. Vampire stereotypes are hard to break. If I were a Twilight vampire, I think I would be offended by the racism-ness of it all.
