Not a fan of NaNo... I don't think forcing yourself to pound out crap is really that helpful, but it depends on what's blocking you, probably.
Giving yourself motivation to write is good, though. But I think it's more productive to pick something (contest, anthology, etc) off of Ralan.com with a reasonable deadline, figure out your idea, and commit to writing a submission for it.
