Yesterday I went to the State Fair! I was so exhausted by the time I came home though, that I immediately fell asleep. I don't like going on rides, so I spent most of the time either eating (cajun chicken on a stick, good. Fried twinkie, big let down) or watching my nephew the Human Monkey Boy climb/bounce/run amok.

Of course, I was most excited to see the results for the cross stitch competition...

My geisha Hanako won a 5th place ribbon for Large Figures.(close-up pic in the link)

Tempest in a Teapot Dragon won 3rd for Small Animals.

And Strawberry Summer won 3rd place for samplers.

And yes, that picture of "The Kiss" next to Hanako is the same one that I'm working on and didn't get finished in time :( I was kind of worried that would happen, but oh well. I can still always submit it next year anyway. I'm happy to note that at least mine has been de-mullet-ified.

Also! I wasn't the only one who noticed last year that the judges liked Mirabilia designs because there were at least half-a-dozen of them this time around and they all took top ribbons. So if you're ever in a contest, note that judges often like stuff that is a)huge, b)has beads and c)metallic threads.

It was definitely fun to submit stuff and look at all the other arts and crafts. I'm already plotting on what cross stitch to work on for next year ^_^

Yay! Very merry congrats indeed. If you want to borrow the gryphon you did for me back to enter next year, I wouldn't mind having award winning cross stitchery in my possession. ;)

I'd also recommend the other geisha you did, although I am bad and I forget her name.

Thanks! ^_^

I should have submitted the other geisha (mai) as well, but thought four would be too much. There's always next year though!

Yay! Brenn clued me in on what to look for so I could see your stuff while we're there tomorrow. Congrats

Yay, congratulations! They all look beautiful - they look so nice mounted. Do you have a closeup of the sampler? It looks neat.

I haven't been to a state fair in yyyyyeeaaars and you just made me want to go. I want to see the fancy chickens in the livestock/breeders areas!

thank you! Sadly, I don't have a closeup of the sampler, all the ones I took came out too dark or blurry. I'll try to take one when I get it back next week.

And you should totally go a state fair. It's worth it just to eat fair food; you can't beat a place that has a variety of foods on sticks :D
