Yesterday I went to the State Fair! I was so exhausted by the time I came home though, that I immediately fell asleep. I don't like going on rides, so I spent most of the time either eating (cajun chicken on a stick, good. Fried twinkie, big let down) or watching my nephew the Human Monkey Boy climb/bounce/run amok.
Of course, I was most excited to see the results for the cross stitch competition...
My geisha Hanako won a 5th place ribbon for Large Figures.(close-up pic in the link)

Tempest in a Teapot Dragon won 3rd for Small Animals.

And Strawberry Summer won 3rd place for samplers.

And yes, that picture of "The Kiss" next to Hanako is the same one that I'm working on and didn't get finished in time :( I was kind of worried that would happen, but oh well. I can still always submit it next year anyway. I'm happy to note that at least mine has been de-mullet-ified.
Also! I wasn't the only one who noticed last year that the judges liked Mirabilia designs because there were at least half-a-dozen of them this time around and they all took top ribbons. So if you're ever in a contest, note that judges often like stuff that is a)huge, b)has beads and c)metallic threads.
It was definitely fun to submit stuff and look at all the other arts and crafts. I'm already plotting on what cross stitch to work on for next year ^_^

Date: 2006-09-21 06:14 am (UTC)I should have submitted the other geisha (mai) as well, but thought four would be too much. There's always next year though!

Date: 2006-09-22 04:20 am (UTC)And you should totally go a state fair. It's worth it just to eat fair food; you can't beat a place that has a variety of foods on sticks :D
