Today I took a nap and woke up to an Oprah rerun about some book called Eat, Pray, Love. I know it's been around for awhile, but I've pretty much ignored the hoopla around it. Apparently it is some self-help book where the author recovers from a painful divorce and finds herself by going on sabbatical in Italy, India and Bali. Oprah is promoting this inspirational concept to all women who are finding their everyday lives lacking. There are many video segments of annoying, well-to-do middle-aged women trying to out-pretentious each other as the author tries her best to look benevolent. Everything about this irritates the living hell out of me. F'r fuck's sake, if I could afford to travel all over the world and eat pasta for as long as I wanted to, I wouldn't be fucking depressed in the first place. How is the average person supposed to be able to discover life fulfillment this way? Please go die in a fire.

Okay, I was a little cranky when I woke up from my nap.

This is pretty much my reaction to every single 'I found myself in Tuscany/South of France/Somewhere else handily packed with quirky people and good food' story.

I suppose I could try to find myself at the Olive Garden, but it just wouldn't be the same. Even if their chocolate torte is pretty awesome.

It's too bad they can't be a little more realistic and show us regular people trying to find what helps us make it through our lives.

So traveling around and eating a lot of food helped her find herself? Doesn't say much for who she found.

Exactly! That would truly be a revolutionary concept.

Doesn't say much for who she found.
Hee!

oprah is so out of touch now.

I admire that she tries to help people, but yeah, she's pretty out of touch.

The favorite things shows crack me up. First of all, they're pretty hysterical and secondly, Oprah can't seem to decide whether she wants to preach anti-materialism or hawk her favorite over-priced sweater.

This made me laugh.

Glad it was worth a giggle :)
