giving the gift of laziness

I just checked my work schedule for tomorrow and discovered that they gave me the whole day off due to expected low call volume. Yays! Sure, I will probably cry when I get my paycheck, but I also know that tomorrow will be a lot more enjoyable being at home in my pjs and drinking tea while looking at cat macros.
My birthday was Wednesday and was spent eating sushi and loitering in various bookstores in town. Drinking many cups of chai since it was finally cool enough out for warm drinks. For dessert, I had a key lime mousse from La Baguette. So not bad all in all. My friends called to wish me happy birthday and
brennye gave me a year of paid LJ. Thanks, Brenn! :D
Anyway, what I got at the bookstore: (Amazon's website is acting goofy, so I could only grab one link)
The Atheist's Bible - a collection of interesting quotes
The Night Villa by Carol Goodman
Shutter Island by Dennis Lehane - I've never read Lehane before, but there are many positive comments about this one over on Snarkfest, so I was lured into it.
the latest issue of Haute Doll and Britain's No. 1 Cross Stitcher magazines.
My Favorite Felt Sweets - Just look at how cute that shit is. I could totally make that. Maybe. One of these days.

I am obsessed with Japanese craft books. I don't know why, since I don't ever bother to do anything other than cross-stitch, but I still love craft books. And of course, the cutest of all craft books usually come from Japan. I will have to scan some pictures for another post.
I should have bought some clothes for fall, but I blew all my money on books. That's how it usually goes: books, bills, food, more books, and then if I remember or have any left, clothes.
Oh, and I really want to see The Brothers Bloom based on this trailer. Like right now. It just looks awesome. Why is Mark Ruffalo dressed like Buster Keaton? Who the hell cares? That alone would make me pay to see it in the theater. Rachel Weisz break dancing is the icing on the cake. I hope it comes out soon, that it plays in a theater in town, and that Vogue magazine comes out with an editorial saying that due to this movie, hats are now totally back in style. Because they should be. And because I need to see more people wearing porkpie hats. It would just make me happy.
