Wheee! I got to come home early after just half my shift because of the ice storm. It has been thundering and raining ice. When I waddled out to the parking lot, I found my car to be mostly a block of ice. It took maybe 15-20 minutes to get clear it off. Despite all my whinging about work, I must admit that the company does treat their employees decently. During last year's ice storm, which was worse, I couldn't get my then-employers to let me leave despite that I was the only one in the department and I was only taking maybe one call every hour or so. (So I said screw it! and left early.)

Saw many blue-green flashes of light in the distance on my way home. No St. Elmo's fire, but power lines going down, I think.

I want to go and see The Golden Compass on my days off, but I think I'll be iced in. :(

Heh. Since From the Choirgirl Hotel is one of my all time favorite albums, I just had a whim to try scanning a dolly in imitation of the cover art. Sebastienne seemed an ideal model as she gives good face, with less potential for crazy eye angles. These are rather repetitve shots, but I like the underwater, floaty effect. (And they were really fun to do. No bother with shaky hands.) I think I might try it again with a doll with open eyes to see how it turns out. After all, it's going to be a long weekend.

Ahh, sweet, sweet electricity. Never leave me again.

Went to bed around 6am (yes, dastardly sleep schedule) and woke up around 10:30 or so, by sounds of iced-over tree limbs snapping from the weight and crashing to the ground. Discovered the electricity was out. The mail lady showed up at that point, unexpectedly, with a package containing my Migidoll Ryu head from Korea. I had no idea it had even been sent out yet and I felt kind of guilty for unwittingly making the mail lady come to my house. This is no weather for dolly deliveries. Crazy EMS, nothing slows them down, not even Sundays or catastrophic ice storms.

Anyway, I went back to bed. There was nothing else to do and at least it was warm there. Occasionally, the sound of tree limbs falling would wake me up, but as nothing seemed to have hit the house, I'd go back to sleep. Mom woke me up around four, to get hot food and coffee. Pretty much every house in our neighborhood that has a large tree in its yard now has fallen limbs scattered about. (Our house, not so bad at least.) Not many restuarants were open, so we stopped at the Walmart supercenter and had lunch at McDonalds. Blech. Apparently, everyone else in town had the same idea as the place was packed. It reminded me of Stephen King's The Mist. Because if there's a disaster, you might as well be in a place that stocks groceries. And get some X-mas shopping done while you're at it.

Killed some time there, and then just as we got home around 7, the electricity came back up. Yay!
