. . .because once night falls, huge swarms of bugs come out. It's been like a plague lately. Driving at night, there was this constant pinging noise of tiny insect bodies hitting the car windshield. Also, you can't walk outside without having to avoid the hundreds of june bugs reeling around the pavement like little, tiny insect drunks. [Napoleon Dynamite voice]Gross![/ND]

Anyway, I finally found my little notebook, so here are the movies I've recently seen. I've been rather slack in keeping up with them.

Sin City -This was fun. Although not if you are easily squicked out. You could do a drinking game every time someone takes damage to the family jewels (and be really drunk by the end.)
The Elephant Man - Very, very sad. Brilliant performances all around.
House of Flying Daggers - Pretty, but oddly rather meh about it. Maybe I should see it again, but aside from the prettiness, it didn't really move me too much. I didn't care about the characters as much as I did in Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon or even Hero.
Porco Rosso - Cute, but I don't think it will be one of my favorite Studio Ghibli movies. Although I did like the beginning scene where the pirates kidnap the schoolgirls and soon regret it.
King Arthur - Was expecting this to be fun, like a modern version of Excalibur, but no such luck. With so much prettiness (Clive Owen, Ioan Gruffudd), it still managed to be amazingly boring.
Groundhog Day -somehow have managed to not seen this before. Turned out to be as great as everyone says it is.
Kung Fu Hustle - am now in love with Stephen Chow. yay for the scene of the Axe Gang dancing.
The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy - saw this one twice. And yes, I liked it a lot. Martin Freeman was perfect as Arthur. Ditto for Alan Rickman and Mos Def.

and for May. . .
Shaolin Soccer - Cute, had its funny moments, but not as laugh-out loud funny as Kung Fu Hustle
God of Cookery - A parody of Iron Chef. Chow plays a famous chef who ends up on the street after being exposed as a terrible cook. He makes his comeback after befriending a street vendor cook and creating a recipe for explosive pissing beef balls. Awesome
Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith - think I've already written about this before. It had its moments.
Lady Jane - Helena Bonham Carter (looking very, very young and un-Marla Singer) as the doomed royal usurper and Cary Elwes, who gets to do a lot of drinking and wenching (hee.) Really good historical drama, albeit on the depressing side. Very good rainy day movie, i think.
King of Comedy - Chow again, this time as an aspiring actor. This has some funny scenes parodying John Woo flicks. And at this point, I'm starting to notice some repetition, like there will be singing and/or dancing, someone may get peed on, and someone will possibly get hit with a folding chair.
Shattered Glass- Considering it's about journalist integrity, it was a really fascinating, interesting movie. Also, Hayden Christensen really can act.

That's it! Books next time.

Gotta love Canada - well, Vancouver specifically. We aren't plagued by any truly disgusting bugs. Too far south for REAL mosquitoes, too far north for INSANELY LARGE DRUNKEN BEETLES?! ;)

Wow, so many good reasons to move to Canada :D I suppose on the bright side, I don't live in Texas, home of Shrub and even more ginormous insects.
