time for tea

Some of the pictures I took the other day were of my tea cup collection. I found some cute Royal Albert teacups on Ebay last month.

The top teacup pattern is called Carnival and the blue flowered one is called Blackthorn. According to the seller, Carnival is supposed to be poppy flowers, but they look more like cherry flowers to me. Both cups remind me of Japanese designs, which is what tempted me into bidding on them. Luckily, they didn't go very high.

I'm particularly fond of this one, not because of the pattern which is actually fairly boring, but because it was a souvenir from the Winchester Mystery House. When I visited my sister in Berkeley a couple of years ago, she asked if there was anyplace in Northern California that I particularly wanted to visit and this (along with Japantown, where I experienced the ultimate in shopping highs) was at the top of the list. I grew up addicted to reading ghost stories and of course, the Winchester Mansion is infamous among haunted houses. Daisies were Sarah Winchesters favorite flowers because they have 13 petals (13 being her favorite number), although ironically, the flowers on the cup have more than 13 petals, but whatever. I still think it's nifty.
