I don't often take pictures of my Tender Bee-A doll because she came with disturbingly pink eyeliner. A couple of weeks ago, I decided to bite the bullet and try my hand at repainting her. Attempt #1 came out just how I wanted, which I then managed to completely screw up while applying gloss. Very upset. I tried again to recreate it again on Sunday and this is the result.

In other news, have started beading on "The Kiss." Have now remembered how much beading sucks.
fiercebunny: (p&p - bored)
I woke up early this morning by the nasal whine of a mosquito buzzing somewhere right by my head. Much flailing about ensued. Not a good start to the morning and the blasted thing interrupted a very intersting dream. Also, I itch.

Some random quotes I found recently that I liked:

"If you want to tell people the truth, make them laugh, otherwise they'll kill you." -- Oscar Wilde

"You can go a long way with a smile. You can go a lot farther with a smile and a gun." -- Al Capone

"There is not any memory with less satisfaction than the memory of some temptation we resisted." - James Branch Cabell

"We are here on Earth to do good to others. What the others are here for, I don't know". -- W. H. Auden

Other news:
I mailed off my application to enter the cross stitch contest for the state fair in September. Originally, I intended to submit "The Kiss" that I'm currently working on (work in progress pics here, here, and here), but I'm not sure I can get it done in time. I've got a couple inches of blank space left, various isolated popcorn stitches, and a hella amount of beading that I haven't even started on. Plus, I have to get it framed, but my mom, oh so nicely agreed to do that for my birthday. I'm a little disappointed that it probably won't be done in time for the fair(the reason I started it was because I thought a Mirabilia pattern would have the best chance), but I can always submit it next year. I'll just be happy when the sucker's done with. I'll just submit a different piece this time around.

I was at the cross stitch store a couple of weeks ago and they had a finished piece displayed that someone else is submitting. It's a Mirabilia design (of course!) with lots of beading and in a ginormous silver frame. The picture in the link doesn't do it justice at all; it's gorgeous in real life. The shop owner told me it took the owner just 14 days to do. Gah!

And lastly, a picture of Gish, photoshopped into b&w.

*sigh* I'm such a lazy-ass blogger and it's been like, three weeks already, but here are some more pictures from my trip to Sacramento...

There was a lot of taiko drumming. Ok, I admit to not really liking children, but it was very cute to see all the little kids dressed up in kimono for Obon.

The church has a class on how to make Japanese dolls! They displayed some of their work in a cultural exhibit during the food bazaar. I was so disappointed that the class wasn't being held while I was in town and there are no books in English on how to make these. Poo.

I'm sad because my three days off from work are over :(

I ordered a doll kit from Korea and it came during my weekend, so I spent most of that time trying to put it together. I don't have any natural ability artwise, so most of what I know is cobbled together from various threads on hobby message boards. I'm satisfied with the end result, but it took hoooouuuurs. One of the big 'things' in the doll hobby, is customizing your own doll. Which is fun. Kinda. Okay, maybe not so much. I got caught up in the idea of it, before considering a)the abovementioned lack of ability and b)the cost of art supplies. Still, I have to admit it is satisfying to tackle a project oneself and get it completed. I'll try to get some pictures taken soon.

Now, going to go fall down.

yays! My mom bought me a new camera since I've been talking about one for ages now. <3! It's a Canon Powershot A610. Since I haven't had a day off since it came, I've only gotten to play with it a little bit, but I love it so far.

I specifically wanted a camera that had a good macro feature. So I've been running around taking extreme closeups of various things.

I am totally in super-posty mood today. This means that afterwards, I will disappear for the next two months.

Today I finally found my dad's camera tripod, which has so far improved the focus on my pictures. Apparently, my hands were even shakier than I thought.

Why is it that out of all of the days in the week, the two I have off go by the fastest of them all?

little updates:
On Tuesday night, I went to go see Brokeback Mountain with [livejournal.com profile] mythicalgryphon and Sarah. I'd be looking forward to it for months and it did indeed live up to my expectations. A wonderful movie, yet beautifully understated so that it doesn't beat you over the head with its message. Simply the story of two people who love each other, but can't openly share it because of social convention. (Oldest plotline ever, but it still works!)

Afterwards, we all went to Sarah's house because she had left-over brisket and stuffs from a road trip. Mmm. I will totally have to drive the hour and half down to ????, Oklahoma for that kind of food. (I can't remember the name of the place.) Anyway, it was all very yummy. Thanks for sharing, Sarah =)

Wednesday was spent goofing off and watching Lost. Mr. Ecko's story was sad, Charlie was a prat, and yeah, when they started reciting the 23rd Psalm, I did think it got a little too churchy. Let's cut to Jack already so he can insist that none of this is happening because of OMGFATE.

Today, I got up at a quarter past 8 AM to take my mom to a doctor's checkup. I repeat, 8 in the morning. That nearly killed me. Let's never do that again. I didn't even bother to bring a book for the waiting room because I was so tired that I became temporarily illiterate. That's how tired I was.

Also, my dvd of Kamikaze Girls came in the mail. (Thanks for not ringing the doorbell, UPS person.) This, along with Brokeback, was the other movie from last year that I was really wanting to see. And it rocked hard. I have to admit that I envy Momoko her Lolita wardrobe. And it goes without saying, her mad embroidery skilz too =D

Speaking of Lolita fashion, here is a picture of my new doll from Korea. (I get so excited when I manage to take a picture that is actually in focus that I must share.) I've named her Gish. She's meant to share a body with my vampire doll head (the heads can switch out), but I haven't had the heart to decapitate her just yet.

I've been lazy and haven't kept up on my books read list for awhile. Time to play ketchup.

Dolly picture time )

Mucking about taking silly pictures certainly helps to relieve stress from an annoying work week. More about that later though, perhaps after I've had some cheap wine. Mmm, Riuniti.

I think I'm getting more cranky and irritable in my old age. I was talking about this with Sarah the other day; the new rule that I measure things by is, "I could do this (whatever activity in particular) or I could take a nap." And generally, nap wins. Nap beats rock, paper, and scissors. Maybe after my nap, I'll make that into an LJ icon.

BPAL scent o' the day: Antique Lace
"Nostalgia encapsulated. A soft, wistful blend of dry flowers, aged linens, and the faint breath of long-faded perfumes."
I'm so glad that this is no longer discontinued; I need to replace my imp with a bottle.
fiercebunny: (blah blah blah)
Several months ago, I bought a doll head from Korea. I had wanted a vampire dolly for my collection for some time; however, since the doll came unpainted and I don't really have artistic ability, it took several tries to get her customized. I finally finished (more or less) a few days ago, so here are some pictures of Bess, my leetle disembodied vampire.

Damn you, Ebay and your easy accessability to cute Japanese toys! Curses!

BPAL Scent O'the Day: Penny Dreadful
"Also called Gallows Literature. A dime novel rife with melodrama, horror, madness and cruelty; a ten cent analogy of vice and virtue in conflict. Soft perfume evocative of noir heroines over rich red grave loam."

heh. I smell like cheap fiction. (That sounds like it would make an excellent cutting remark.) Also, cinnamon and dirt.

Meanwhile, the internets tear themselves into a frenzy as Antique Lace goes back into the BPAL catalog. *sigh* I knew I should have Ebayed my lone imp for big bucks back when it was discontinued. Might as well start slathering it on now. Still, I'm glad I can now afford to get a bottle someday.

going to pass out now.

One of the reasons I like doll collecting is that it gives me the opportunity to wear clothes vicariously. I don't think I could pull off the gothic-lolita look personally, but the clothes are gorgeous.
